End of Month Post – April 2019

April has been kind of an odd month. About half-way through the month I decided I wanted to work on personal projects more, and to work on some fundamental type stuff and build my skills up a bit. Well, I did get the “Sci-Fi Kalta” piece done, but I didn’t really do much else to be quite honest. Anytime I wanted to try, I would absolutely hate the thought of bashing my head against the wall trying to learn and understand things I don’t know or understand. I think the combination of trying to complete, what I would have called, a big piece to push/test my boundaries in art while also trying to learn fundamental mechanics of art is a bad combination. What I should have done was work on either fundamentals OR personal projects, but definitely not both. Like I have mentioned before, I ended up not doing all the much in either category.

I’ll just put it in a list but the things I believe I need to work on fundamentally or the personal projects I’d like to do are:

Fundamentals

    • Faces – Human / Animal
    • Body types
    • Object / mechanical drawing
    • Environments / scenery
    • Poses (this is putting anatomy to use)
    • Textures
    • Chibis (OK, this was actually something I worked on this month, and now I feel a lot better about it!)

Personal Projects

    • A lot of original character concepts I’d like to finalize
    • One “max level” art piece of one of my characters at least semi-regularly
    • Comic Page format Comic of one of my characters, Flat colors + cel shading
    • Frame by frame or picture-type sequence of events kind of comic, if that makes sense
    • Various pictures and art that I’d like to make with my characters in mind

With all that said, since I’ve completed the bigger piece, I’ve decided to open up commissions again for the month of May. When June comes around however, I will close commissions once more, so that I can fully devote the whole month into JUST FUNDAMENTAL WORK. I think I have a better idea of how I can go about doing that now.

Actually, in hindsight I guess it’s been mostly a Chibi month. Huh.
